The clean-up of the nuclear estate is a key priority for both the Scottish and United Kingdom governments. Dounreay’s decommissioning is well established with the site due to reach an interim end state by the early 2030s.
The final internal structure has been dismantled within the Dounreay Materials Test Reactor (DMTR) support building complex which now allows the building to be demolished.
The site will be testing its alarms on Sunday 2 April between 2.00pm and 6.00pm. Both alarms may be sounded numerous times. Please take no action.
A major upgrade and expansion of Dounreay’s Thurso town centre office has been completed.
Engineering, science and business graduates are being offered the chance to work on one of Europe’s most complex closure programmes.
More than 320,000 items from Dounreay’s historic photo collection have been transferred to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s new national archive in time for its opening in Wick.
