Dounreay nuclear submarine test reactor fault

On March 6, Defence Secretary Philip Hammond announced that low levels of radioactivity had been discovered in the cooling waters of the nuclear submarine test reactor at Dounreay.

The reactor is based at the Ministry of Defence site known as the Vulcan Naval Reactor Test Establishment, rather than the neighbouring civil nuclear site at Dounreay which has no working reactors and is in the process of decommissioning.
