Directors sought for £4m community fund

Members of the public are being invited to serve as board members of a new community fund from Dounreay worth £4 million.

Known as the Caithness and North Sutherland Fund, it will channel money to projects that can help regenerate the area’s economy, in accordance with the socio-economic policy of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority which is putting up the money.

The funding package was agreed as part of the £110 million development of a site at Dounreay for the disposal of low-level radioactive waste from its decommissioning.

The site stakeholder group worked with NDA and its site clean-up contractor DSRL to establish a not-for-profit company that will be responsible for the fund. The group today begins advertising for members of the public willing to serve as members of the company’s board.

The closing date for applications is August 20 and the first release of funds is expected in summer 2011.
