Dounreay publishes latest socio economic plan

DSRL has published its socio economic development plan and strategy document for 2009-2010.

Dounreay has been at the heart of the Caithness and North Sutherland economy for more than fifty years. One in every five jobs in Caithness is located at Dounreay, and it is estimated that as many as one in three jobs in Caithness and North Sutherland may depend on the decommissioning activities at Dounreay.
The decommissioning programme currently injects £80 million into the local economy every year. So the closure of the site will result in major social and economic challenges for the area.
The plan sets out DSRL’s strategy for managing the socio economic impact of the progressive decommissioning of Dounreay on the local community.
It also details DSRL’s commitment to supporting the work of the agencies tasked with the regeneration of the area.
