Dounreay’s clean-up and demolition is to feature in a 90-minute programme being made for broadcast on French and German television.
The programme, called Nuclear Waste, is being made by Bonne Pioche for broadcast on the channel ARTE.
It will focus on how radioactive waste is managed worldwide and has seen the production team visit Russia and the USA as well as Dounreay.
They spent two days at Dounreay, interviewing staff and filming various aspects of the site decommissioning.
The film team was accompanied by a technical advisor from the French organisation CRIIRAD and an environmental campaigner with knowledge of the nuclear industry worldwide.
During the visit, they were given a presentation on the end state, stepped inside the Dounreay Fast Reactor, visited the shaft isolation project and saw how low-level radioactive waste is being managed. They also visited Sandside Beach.
