Site alert to be tested today
May 21, 2012
Dounreay's site alert will be tested at 5pm today as part of ongoing efforts to fix a suspected electrical fault in the system.
The test aims to demonstrate that the system is functional in an emergency after an unplanned activation on Saturday morning when the alert sounded for 20-30 seconds and stopped. A series of 'blips' could be heard throughout the morning.
Decommissioning work in high-hazard areas was put on hold until the system could be tested.
