DSRL is informing staff and neighbours that blasting operations at the site of a new waste disposal facility will start during the afternoon of Thursday, March 1.

The facility is being excavated to take low-level radioactive waste from the demolition of the redundant nuclear site.

It is located on undeveloped land beyond the eastern perimeter of the site.

A five-minute audible warning will be sounded prior to each blast - three short blasts of an air horn followed by one short blast of an air horn. One long blast of an air horn will signal the all-clear.

Vibration monitoring equipment has been installed at several locations.
