Dismantled pipe activates smoke alarm
February 21, 2012
The site’s fire brigade was called out shortly before 6am this morning when a smoke alarm activated in the Prototype Fast Reactor complex.
The cause of the alarm was traced to a small fire in a section of redundant pipe. The pipe came from a cooling circuit that is being dismantled.
Fire personnel quickly extinguished the fire using specialist graphex powder. Minor damage was caused to the local containment. No radioactivity was detected. No-one was injured.
Further work to dismantle the cooling circuit has been put on hold pending an investigation.
