Dounreay tests site emergency plan
May 24, 2011
An exercise to test the emergency arrangements at Dounreay takes place on the morning of Wednesday, May 25.
The purpose of the exercise is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the site's emergency preparedness to regulators.
The site holds regular exercises to test the arrangements in specific facilities. Once a year, the site is required to demonstrate how an emergency in a specific plant would be responded to on a site-wide basis.
All personnel will be involved in the exercise. Normal access arrangements to the site will be suspended for the duration of the exercise.
Code-named Delta 47, the exercise will involve the sounding of the site alert for approximately 60 seconds. Some emergency vehicles will participate.
In the event of a genuine incident, the site alert will sound for at least 10 minutes.
