Clean-up companies descend on Dounreay for trade show

June 06, 2008

Dounreay has hosted the UK’s premier trade show for engineering equipment and services to the nuclear decommissioning industry.

Fifty-five companies took part in the 2008 Technology & Innovation Exhibition at Dounreay, scene of Scotland's largest nuclear decommissioning project.

The event promotes the supply of engineering equipment and associated services and is aimed at specialists in design, maintenance, operations, decommissioning, waste management, process control and procurement.

The exhibition was held in a temporary marquee and aimed at staff on the Dounreay site as well as the supply chain.

Simon Middlemas, managing director of Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd, and its head of commercial Tom Cummings officially opened the event.

Simon Middlemas told the audience of supply chain representatives: “There have been many changes on this site over the last few years. Your support to the site has helped us get where we are. Our suppliers are as important to us as the staff on this site."

Tom Cummings added: “Two thirds of our budget, approximately £90 million, is spent on our supply chain. We are looking to you, our suppliers, to continue to bring innovation and challenge to the way we work. We need to create a sustainable supply chain.”

The exhibition was organised by Nu-Tech Associates Ltd and sponsored by Nuvia.
