World Environment Day celebrated at Dounreay

What is the theme of the 2008 World Environment Day? In which city would you find the Spanish Steps?

These were just two of the questions posed in the Dounreay 2008 World Environment Day pub-style quiz, the highlight of the site’s Environment Week programme.
The eleven teams, made up from workers on the site, grappled with eighty questions over eight rounds, with subjects ranging from general, environment, culture and sport.

After a spirited and enjoyable contest, ‘The Four Players’ emerged as the winners, with ‘Mr & Mrs S’ second, and ‘E-coli’ coming third. All the prizes had an environmental theme, and every contestant received a free Onya Bag, a trendy plastic bag alternative.

Caithness Energy Advice, who give free energy advice to householders in the north Highlands, also made a visit to the site. Their stand was well attended, and they provided some useful advice on saving energy around the home, and information on alternative energy sources such as micro-renewables.
